Lions hail best win for year
Michael Voss says there is no doubt Saturday night's win over Adelaide is the Lions' best for the season
MICHAEL Voss says there is no doubt Saturday night's win over Adelaide is the Brisbane Lions' best for the season.
The 10-point triumph came after the home team trailed by 38 points at quarter-time.
It was the second time this season the Lions had beaten a top-two team at the Gabba, following a thrilling two-point win over then league leaders West Coast in round 10.
But the Lions' coach said this win was even better.
"That's a better one," Voss said.
"Different in nature clearly, but that was a better one. You're coming from [38 points] down. To do that against a team in really good form, they've got a clear lead on us and we've chased them down.
"That's validation for the guys that they can sustain the effort and can run out games really strong."
Despite the game being close on the scoreboard, Voss said he felt general play was more in the Lions' favour.
They won the disposal count, contested possessions, tackles and trailed by just one in the clearances.
"When you're [38 points] down you've got to just put yourself in a position to win and slowly go about it," he said.
"This group does have tremendous character about them. We've been through some fairly adverse times as a group. They do have a will there."
After a horror three weeks that included heavy losses to West Coast, Richmond and Carlton, Voss said he maintained faith the Lions were still making progress.
They have now won eight matches this season - twice as many as 2011 - and finish with winnable fixtures against Port Adelaide (away) and the Western Bulldogs (home).
"We've got unfinished business as a footy team," he said.
"I've said a number of times we have made progress as a footy team, but unless there's results that can consolidate that view, it can sometimes be a bit of a waste.
"I know there's progress in this group. there's some genuine light for these guys and I think they can see it and feel it, I can see it and feel it. I just hope from a Brisbane public's point of view, they can see it too."
