Lions building: Brown
Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown says his side is building towards 'better things' ahead of Saturday's clash against the Richmond Tigers at the Gabba.
Brown says the team's focus for the rest of the season was on playing a more complete brand of football in the back-half of the year and was adamant his side was not going to give up.
"No doubt the side's taken a lot of knocks," Brown said on the Lions recent injury toll with Vice Captain Jed Adcock undergoing surgery on a broken finger today.
"We're down on confidence a bit but we've got to work through that."
"You can either put the white flag up or you can build towards something," Brown said.
"Clearly it's been disappointing but when you're going through tough times you either sook about it and whinge and give up, or you can work your way through it and it makes you a tougher character."
Brown is also keen for coach Michael Voss to name youngsters in preparation for next season as the Lions look to finish the season strongly.
"We want to continue to improve the way we play our footy and obviously continue to give guys games," Brown said.
"Hopefully we can get guys back from injury and start to put together a side similar to what will be out there at the start of next season."
The Lions face a confident Tigers outfit which pushed the Sydney Swans at the SCG on Sunday despite falling to a 10-point loss.
"They [Richmond] are similar to us," Brown said.
"They're a young up and coming side, and they're going to be hungry."
The disruption to Richmond's preparation due to volcanic ash causing flight delays did not concern Brown, who rated the side's finals prospects.
"We're expecting them to come up here ready to fire," Brown said.
"They're in finals contention so they're going to come up here very competitive."
