It’s footy old school style, slotting training in between tough days on the tools.
Noah Answerth has been loving it.
In season the second year defender combines his football with a carpentry apprenticeship so when the Covid 19 restrictions were handed down, there was a rush of requests from team mates for odd jobs.
Some were pretty routine for a guy who has been swinging a hammer for a hobby his whole life.
Others were a bit more of a stretch, such as the golf putting green he installed in former teammate Luke Hodge’s backyard.
“It’s been good to be able to do this stuff in the off time, it’s given me a little bit more experience with some stuff I wouldn’t normally do such as a putting green which is a bit out of the box,’’ he said.
“For six weeks I was pretty busy, I guess I can get pretty bored when I don’t have anything to do, so having things to do at other people’s houses helped me get through this time a bit quicker which was good.’’
The tasks that most closely align with his studies were a new floor for Daniel Rich and a deck at Head of Medical Peter Blanch’s place.
“I was on the circular saw for about three days cutting floorboards which was fun,’’ he said.
“Richy and Darcy Gardiner were there helping out too so it was good.
“I’ve done a bit of roofing as well, doing Peter’s deck with cement fibre sheeting so they were all big jobs that have given me some experience.’’
A few players’ gardens have also been given a makeover as Answerth called on the skills he picked up from his dad to trim a few hedges.
“My dad is a landscaper by trade so I’ve had a bit of experience with that growing up,’’ he said.
“I’ve done paving, laid fake grass and stuff like that with dad, so that has allowed me to come up here and do some similar jobs for the boys in my off time.
“He was good directing me with Hodgey’s putting green because that was a bit of a harder task so it was good to have dad on the phone talking me through it.’’
