Keeping fit and healthy is obviously part and parcel of being an AFL footballer, however we all still have our own personal preferences when it comes to food.
The boys are well drilled in terms of their diet, with the Club having a part-time dietician on site at the Gabba whose job it is to make sure that we’re putting the right things in to get the most out of our body.
Personally, I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to eating – with raw and natural foods the best way to go.
I’ve actually been getting more hands on in the food industry lately by spending a couple of days per week helping out at Orawgi café, located not far from the Gabba up Ipswich Road.
Orawgi promotes foods that are organic, raw, and low GI – hence the name – and is run and owned by Jamie Louise, who happens to be a good friend of mine.
Call this a shameless plug if you will, but Orawgi is one of those rare places in Brisbane that you can be sure that you’re eating whole foods, fruit and vegetables, which are not only prepared naturally, but taste amazing.
I sincerely recommend you pop down and test it out for yourself at some stage, or visit the website www.orawgi.com
Followers of Sam Michael on Instagram will know that he and his wife Thea are also heavily into healthy eating.
In fact, Thea makes her own protein balls, paleo banana bread, and gluten free products, which are often sold at local markets.
I understand that raw and organic food might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if I could lend any advice it would be – don’t knock it until you try it.
Maybe I can help change your mind if you pop by Orawgi when you’re next in the neighbourhood.
