Club Statement
The Brisbane Lions Football Club is aware of a media report on dealings between Ipswich City Council and Springfield Land Corporation over land intended to be used for the club's proposed Elite Training and Administration Facility at Springfield.
The Club signed a Heads of Agreement last year with ICC, SLC and the AFL to build a training facility at this location on the understanding that all due process had been followed, including the necessary approvals.
As the proposed tenant on the land, we played no role in negotiations on the development application process. At all times the Club has acted in good faith.
The new Board has already resolved that, once appointed, the club’s new CEO would undertake a review of the Lions' proposed move to Springfield to confirm whether or not the relocation is in the best interests of the club. The Chairman will not be involved in the process.
The Club will make no further comment at this time.
