Academy crop off to Combine
Four Academy members have been invited to this year's Draft Combine
Harris Andrews (Aspley), Liam Dawson (Aspley), Matt Hammelmann (Morningside), Nick Jackson (Aspley), and Matthew Uebergang (Ipswich) are among 96 draft hopefuls who will attend the four-day event to be held at Etihad Stadium in October.
It’s a terrific result for the five players, who have obviously been identified by more than a couple of AFL clubs as being draft-worthy.
Last year, Jonathan Freeman and Archie Smith were the only Lions Academy members to attend the 2013 AFL Draft Combine – and both were ultimately drafted to the Club.
The Lions will again have priority access to drafting each of Andrews, Dawson, Hammelmann, Jackson, and Uebergang should they desire.
Braydon Preuss (Mt Gravatt) and Lachie Weller (Broadbeach) have also been invited to this year’s Combine, making it a total of seven Queenslanders.
Preuss is part of the Gold Coast SUNS’ Academy, while Weller – who is considered a likely first-round selection – doesn’t qualify for either Academy.
