Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch says the Brisbane Lions will fully support champion forward Jonathan Brown with whatever decision he makes surrounding his playing future.

Brown seemed to escape serious structural damage to his face following a collision with GWS’ Thomas Bugg last Saturday night, but was subbed out of the game with concussion.

Lions fans collectively held their breath as they witnessed countless slow-motion replays of the incident, with their concerns less about the impact it would have on the team, and more about their hero’s personal wellbeing.

While Brown himself has said that he will “wait until the dust settles” before making any finite decisions on his immediate future, Leppitsch assured that the Club would support any potential outcome.

“All I can really say is that I will support him in whatever decision he makes, if he wants to play on or retire now or in eight weeks, whatever he chooses has to be about what he wants and what is best for him and his family. All I am here for is to support him,” Leppitsch told The Courier Mail on Monday.

Brown will also be given all the time he needs to assess his ‘next step’.

The three-time Club Champion has already been ruled out for this week’s trip to Perth with his wife, Kylie, due to give birth to their third child any day now.

Even if he had avoided the collision with Bugg last Saturday, Brown was still expected to be rested for the Fremantle match as part of his ongoing body management program.
