A stirring come-from-behind victory over Carlton last Saturday should see minimal changes made to the Brisbane Lions’ senior team ahead of their Round 12 clash with the Western Bulldogs.

However, Trent West’s season-ending knee injury means fans can expect at least one change at the selection table this evening.

Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch himself said that Stefan Martin would be the “logical choice” considering he has 62 games of AFL experience under his belt.

Martin has been among the Lions’ best in the NEAFL in each of his two games since returning from injury, and is in the box seat to shoulder the team’s ruck duties.

Former basketballer Archie Smith is another who could come into the frame, despite having only played Australian Rules for a little over 12 months.

Smith was drafted to the rookie list late last year as a longer-term project player, but his rapid development has impressed the Lions coaches.

Leppitsch has hinted that he would like Smith to play senior football at some stage this season, it’s just a matter of whether it’s now or later…

Rohan Bewick, Tom Cutler, and Brent Moloney also put their hands up for senior selection with quality performances in last week’s NEAFL win over the Gold Coast.

In terms of match-ups, the Bulldogs’ smaller forward line might force the Match Committee to inject more run into the back six, while the Lions’ forward line are fresh from producing the team’s highest score for the season – 14.14 (98).
