The Brisbane Lions today unveiled a stylised Queensland-shaped ‘BB’ pyramid design, as the winning Hall of Fame guernsey as voted for by Lions fans in an online poll.

More than 4000 people cast votes in the poll, which featured three potential designs, each a tribute to the trailblazers of AFL in Queensland.

The winning guernsey design was worn throughout the first half of the Brisbane Bears’ existence, but has since been consigned to history.

The winning interpretation is a  ‘retro’ design based on the years between 1989-91, when the colour changed from being a deeper and darker maroon to a lighter shade.

The Lions wore a similar design as part of the 2006 AFL Heritage Round, however the proposed Hall of Fame version will be the inverse ‘home’ style guernsey – with the jumper being predominantly gold with a maroon ‘BB’ pyramid.

The winning design will feature the Hall of Fame logo sublimated into the back neckline, with “Dare to beat the Bear” text – a quote derived from the inaugural Bears song – watermarked into the inner neckline.

The names of the 17 inaugural Hall of Fame inductees will also be watermarked into the front of the jumper.

The Hall of Fame guernsey will be worn by the Lions for their Round 8 clash against Essendon at the Gabba – which is the team’s final home game before the Hall of Fame event.

The prestigious event will take place on Wednesday 21 May at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Brisbane Lions defender, Daniel Merrett, who today unveiled the guernsey, said:

“I love the old ‘BB’ pyramid design, so I was really hoping it got up in the online poll. I may have even thrown in the odd sneaky vote.

“The boys love the opportunity to acknowledge the Club’s history and having played in the old Fitzroy style guernsey for the 2012 Hall of Fame, it will be great to don a Bears inspired guernsey this season.”

The guernsey will be available for purchase from tonight at www.lionsshop.com.au
