Matthew Leuenberger looks to have escaped major damage to a badly dislocated thumb suffered in the final quarter of last Saturday night’s match against Carlton.
Leuenberger was taken to hospital during the final quarter of last Saturday night’s match against Carlton when it became apparent that his thumb would not go back into place.
While x-rays cleared the ruckman of any fractures, the full extent of his injury probably won’t be known until later in the week.
“Leuey dislocated his thumb quite badly. He got it put back in place at hospital on Saturday night. We’ll assess that today,” Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report.
“(His availability) will be dependent on how stable that is now, but there was no fracture which is a good result.”
“We will see how it progresses as the week goes on.”
Burton also revealed that defender Mitch Golby was likely to miss Friday night’s clash against Collingwood after showing early signs of a stress fracture in his foot.
It’s a huge blow for Golby, who missed the second half of 2012 with a persistent foot complaint.
“He had a bit of a sore foot last week after the game. He’s had a stress reaction in that area, so we’ll treat that aggressively and see how it goes from here,” Burton said.
“We probably think (he’ll be back) after the Bye.”
A full injury list will be available on Tuesday at the Bupa Health Centre.
