Draft Countdown: No.34
The Lions will have the luxury of back-to-back second round draft picks
But choosing two players in succession certainly won’t be as easy as it might sound, particularly as they will be the Lions’ last active picks at the Draft.
There will likely be half a dozen of talent youngsters still on the Club’s radar by that stage, and choosing exactly which names to call out might require some further discussion around the recruiters' table.
The player who ultimately gets the nod with Pick No.34 will probably depend on the type of players that have been selected with the Club’s first five picks.
The Lions have held Pick No.34 just once post-merger, and it was received from the Western Bulldogs in exchange for Jason Akermanis in 2006.
The Lions used that pick to draft South Australian Chris Schmidt, who played just two senior games at the Club before adding a further 18 in a couple of seasons with Adelaide.
Interestingly, the Lions have once again received the No.34 as part of a trade – this time as part of the complex three-way deal that saw Jared Polec end up at Port Adelaide.
