“There’s something happening at the Gabba…”
Those are the words from Brisbane Lions Senior Coach Michael Voss, whose inherent passion for the Club was clearly visible during an exclusive interview with LIONS TV.
And after seeing some significant improvements in his team over the past 12 months, Voss has every reason to be optimistic about the future.
In particular, he believes there is some “exciting talent coming through”, each of whom has embraced the Club’s strong culture.
“It is a privilege to be at this football club. And it is a privilege to be able to play this game,” Voss told LIONS TV.
Voss believes the team’s next step towards participating in September is making sure that the Gabba returns to being a near-impenetrable fortress for visiting sides.
“You can’t be successful without regularly getting 8-10 wins a year from your home venue, and that’s the advantage we’ve got.” Voss said.
“We have to maximise that advantage, because there are a lot of other clubs who don’t have it.”
The Lions won six matches at the Gabba last season, up from just three the previous year, and finished the season particularly strongly winning five of their final seven home games.
Most importantly, the Lions proved they could conquer quality sides such as Adelaide and West Coast with the parochial support of their home crowd.
The Crows and Eagles will be among the first clubs to return to the Gabba in 2013, and Voss knows how important a role the home crowd will play in helping get the Lions off to a good start.
“There is something happening at the Gabba...so come along and watch it.”
