LAST TIME THEY MET
Jonathan Brown led the Lions to a thrilling two-point victory over the Gold Coast Suns in Round 3, 2013. Brown, the recipient of the Marcus Ashcroft Medal, kicked five goals in slippery, wet conditions.

Despite the Lions holding a 24-point lead during the third quarter, the Gold Coast Suns continued to come, and squared the terms in the fourth quarter. From there it was a see-sawing battle that had fans on the edge of their seats.

The game seemed all but over when Pearce Hanley slotted one with two minutes to go, but enter Michael Rischitelli. The former Lion kicked a remarkable goal to bring the Suns back to within two points with just over a minute remaining. The ball remained in the Suns forward 50 for the remaining minutes but the Lions managed to scrap their way to a narrow victory.

Andrew Raines and Gary Ablett battled all night, but neither man was able to break away from the other. Whilst Ablett finished with 27 touches, Raines too finished with 21 for the Lions.

Jared Brennan and Harley Bennell were amongst the best for the Suns, whilst Daniel Rich and Pearce Hanley impressed for the Lions.

MARCUS ASHCROFT MEDAL
The player judged best by a panel of independent experts during the matches between the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns will be awarded the Marcus Ashcroft Medal.

Ashcroft was a valuable member of the Lions’ side that achieved a hat-trick of premierships from 2001-2003 and was the first Queenslander to play 300 AFL games. He originally hailed from Southport on the Gold Coast before joining the then Brisbane Bears in 1989.

Suns utility Jared Brennan was the inaugural recipient of the reward in the first QClash in Round 7 2011, while Lions Co-Captain Jonathan Brown won the medal when the two sides met earlier this year.

GOLD COAST RAIL LINE CLOSURES
The Gold Coast rail line will be closed from Park Rd to Varsity Lakes this weekend which means disruption to train services for patrons attending the Brisbane Lions v Gold Coast Suns match at the Gabba on Saturday evening.
