Jack Redden could become just the fourth player in the Brisbane Lions’ merged history to play 100 consecutive AFL matches should he emerge from the Club’s 2014 pre-season training injury-free.
Since making his AFL debut in Round 15 of 2009, Redden has played in 98 consecutive senior matches and is set to run out for his 100th game in Round 2 next season.
Fellow 2008 draftee Daniel Rich also finished the season on 98 senior game, although not in succession.
Only Marcus Ashcroft (170 matches), Simon Black (107 matches), and Nigel Lappin (103 matches) have played 100 or more consecutive matches for the merged Lions.
Ashcroft’s feat of 170 consecutive matches remains an all-time record at the Club, ahead of former Fitzroy greats Kevin Murray (168 matches) and John Murphy (158 matches).
Redden would need to have a further four uninterrupted seasons at AFL level if he’s any chance to claim the record.
Joel Patfull currently holds the second longest current streak of consecutive matches with 44, while Dayne Zorko has played 38 straight matches since making his AFL debut early in 2012.
