The Brisbane Lions’ last encounter with North Melbourne is one that the Club, and its fans, would probably rather forget.
The Lions were coming off their first win of the season against the Gold Coast, and would have fancied their chances against the Kangaroos, who remained winless from the first three rounds.
But it was all one-way traffic as the home side dominated play from the outset with 11 shots on goal in the opening 16 minutes.
If it hadn’t been for some wayward kicking by the Roos, the match would have been effectively over before by the first break.
Senior Coach Michael Voss later labelled his team’s effort as being “unacceptable” in his post-match media conference.
Three months on, and the Lions will have an opportunity to atone for what was arguably their worst performance of Season 2013.
Midfielder Daniel Rich says that his side are determined to put in a better showing against North Melbourne this time around.
"It was a very disappointing game last time we played them, but the good thing about footy is you get to make up for those kind of games," Rich said.
"The main focus is this weekend and playing good footy against the Roos. We're playing back-to-back home games and hopefully get back-to-back wins. We haven't done that for a while.”
"They're in a similar position to us. They had a good win last week against a good team in Richmond, so they'll be pretty confident, but we've just got to play our brand of footy, play well at the Gabba, and show our supporters that we're heading in the right direction.
"Heading forward with a young group, it's important to win these types of games."
