A two horse race
Reddo and Rocky are battling it out for AFL Dream Team supremacy
As I’ve mentioned before in this column, Reddo is the reigning AFL Fantasy champ at the Lions, having racked up the most points of any player in both 2011 and 2012.
Rocky has finished Runner-Up to his good mate in each of the past two seasons, and could be headed for another year spent as ‘bridesmaid’.
But it’s still anyone’s game with four matches remaining in the regular season.
Rocky led the way for the first half of the season, but was overtaken when a calf injury kept him out of our Round 10 match against Collingwood.
He averaged a modest 76.5 points in his first month back from injury, by which time it seemed likely that Reddo would go on to claim a third straight title.
But Rockliff’s past four weeks, which have produced scores of 134, 120, 97 and 144, have him right back in the frame.
In fact, he’s now just 46 points behind Jack – which means he only has to catch up 12 points in each of our remaining games.
Reddo’s been no slouch either, averaging 107 points from his past seven matches, including a season-high 122 against St Kilda last Saturday night.
I have both boys in my own AFL Fantasy team, so hopefully they keep lifting the bar for each other and racking up some big numbers for ‘The Polka Specials’.
Speaking of ‘The Polka Specials’, I’m happy to report that they’ve had their best season so far and ended up finishing second in a league made up from some of the Lions staff.
Admittedly, it’s probably not the greatest competition, but I’m still primed for my Qualifying Final this week.
Regardless of what happens, I’ll still have bragging rights over Gary O’Donnell who missed out on the top eight by less than half a per cent to our Football Administration Officer.
The Club’s Digital Media Manager, Jarrod Price, is still the team to beat, but I don’t think he’s unbeatable.
In fact, I would go as far to say that my team is better on paper. But I guess it will all come down to who performs best on the day…
