Daniel Rich has become the first player in Club history (including Fitzroy and the Bears) to receive the Michael Tuck Medal as the best on ground in the 2013 NAB Cup Grand Final.
The prestigious Medal, which was introduced in 1992, has previously been awarded to the likes of Gavin Wanganeen, Craig Bradley, Wayne Carey, Paul Salmon, Andrew McLeod, Robert Harvey and Joel Selwood to name just a few.
Rich’s reward came after the 22 year-old blitzed Carlton with 23 disposals, nine clearances, and a goal – his left foot proving typically damaging.
Not far behind Rich in the Medal voting was Dayne Zorko, who received five votes courtesy of his 28 disposal, eight mark, five tackle and two goal performance.
Pearce Hanley finished third with four votes after collecting a team-high 30 possessions.
Jonathan Brown’s five-goal haul was enough to earn one vote from the Medal judges, along with Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs.
The final voting tally for the Michael Tuck Medal was as follows:
7 - Daniel Rich, Brisbane Lions (322)
5 - Dayne Zorko, Brisbane Lions (32)
4 - Pearce Hanley, Brisbane Lions (31)
1 - Jonathan Brown, Brisbane Lions (1)
1 - Bryce Gibbs, Carlton (1)
