The Brisbane Lions have maintained a relatively healthy list after getting through both their AFL and NEAFL matches without any new injury concerns.
In other positive news, Michael Close has overcome his pre-season foot complaint and is ‘available’ to play with the Lions Reserves this Saturday afternoon, while Simon Black, Brent Staker and Jesse O’Brien are all edging closer to their on-field return.
“Blacky and Stakes are going really well with their rehab,” Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Hass told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report.
“They’re a few weeks away from coming back, but they’ve ticked off everything they need to do and are back in full training this week.”
Hass said he was also pleased with the return of Matthew Leuenberger in his first senior hit-out in 12 months.
“We were really happy with (Matthew Leuenberger’s) performance from a footy point of view,” he said.
“We just have to monitor him from week-to-week after such a long-term injury to see how he pulls up.”
Meanwhile, defender Matt Maguire’s expected time on the sidelines has been extended to 2-4 weeks after injuring his leg in the team’s season opener against the western Bulldogs.
Stephen Wrigley, who underwent a full knee reconstruction last month, remains the Club’s only long-term injury.
