Draft Countdown: No.28
Pick No.28 will be the Lions' third draft selection within eight picks
The Lions were desperately keen to retain Yeo, who was taken at Pick No.30 in the 2011 AFL National Draft, but remain confident of securing a more than suitable replacement for the dashing West Australian with Pick No.28.
It will be the Club’s third selection in eight picks between 22 and 28, with only Adelaide (Pick No.23), Hawthorn (Pick No.24), Essendon (Pick No.26) and Gold Coast (Pick No.27) standing in their way of having full control over the start of the second round.
By the time Pick No.22 comes around, there’s no doubt the Lions will be strategic in terms of who and how they draft with those three picks.
Of the recent Drafts, Geelong’s Mitch Duncan and former Collingwood premiership forward Chris Dawes stand out as just some of the quality that can be found at that particular pick.
The Lions have also reaped the benefits of Pick No.28 in recent times, with the Club recruiting Ryan Lester back in 2010.
Despite missing the majority of his debut season with a foot injury, Lester has gone on to play 38 senior AFL games – which is more than a dozen of the players taken before him at the Draft.
