Voss wants tanking coaches barred
The Brisbane Lions coach calls for an overhaul of the draft system in light of repeated tanking talk
Voss says no coach would deliberately lose a game but if it were the case, the maximum penalty should apply.
"I would be very confident to suggest there's never been a coach who has come into a game and said 'we want to lose this game',” Voss said.
"If there is, they should ban him for life."
Voss said the draft system had to be changed to at least avoid the possibility of tanking.
"Let's remove all doubt and get rid of complete perception and just put in a system that warrants you being able to go into a lottery of some sort," he said.
"There is a perception that you need to bottom out to build, and there's a perception that tanking exists, whether it's in its purest form or managing players.”
Voss advocated a lottery system, similar to what is used in several professional sports in the United States.
"Let's remove all doubt with that and put a lottery in ... say the bottom four sides go in a lottery, and if your name comes out, then happy days."
