Amidst the excitement surrounding their recent NAB Cup triumph, the Brisbane Lions players have remained intently focussed on their preparations for the season proper.
But Daniel Merrett wasn’t about to let the latest addition to the Lions’ trophy cabinet out of his sights on Monday.
Merrett even took the NAB Cup along with him to the B105 studios in Brisbane for an interview with morning crew Labby, Stav and Abby.
“It’s a big bit of silverware – it’s been a while since we had some, so I’m making the most of it now,” Merrett said proudly.
“But we’re not getting too carried away, it is only the pre-season.”
“(After the game) Vossy was like, ‘well done, but calm down’.”
The burly full-back’s pride in the trophy was certainly shared by co-host Labby, who proceeded to speak about his own life-long ambition to one day eat breakfast out of a ‘premiership cup’.
Merrett was more than happy to oblige, so long as Labby “washed up after himself”.
“I didn’t actually think you were going to do it,” Merrett said afterwards.
Merrett also commented on the Club’s overwhelming support from fans, and encouraged anyone who hadn’t already signed up as a 2013 member to get on board.
“Memberships are still available – three-game memberships are just $75,” he said.
“The amount of supporters that came to our Family Day in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago was triple what I’ve ever seen down there before!”
