Mitch Hahn understands the Lions Reserves coaching role will have its challenges but is excited by the prospect of leading the Club’s younger brigade in their development.

Hahn will take on the role of the Club’s NEAFL Coach in 2017 and is mindful of the difficulty of the task ahead of him.

“I think there are going to be times when I’ll need some help,” Hahn told LionsTV.

“The relationship that I create with Chris (Fagan) early on, as well as with Danny Daly, who has taken over the offence and defence will be something I’ll be working on really closely.

“I’m really excited by the challenge and the group of guys that we’ve got and I think we can make some real improvements next year.”

“I’ve had some conversations with (former coach) Shane Woewodin about some of the difficulties he faced and the selection process because of the injuries last year.

“We hope that we’ll improve this year. Damien Austin and his team, he’s brought on some sports science and physio staff that will certainly make us better in that area.

“Also linking in with the Lions Academy with Josh Hunt and his expertise and Luke Curran who is talking with the NEAFL at the moment about having 9 nineteen year olds which will certainly give us some stability in the group.”

Hahn will be assisted by Head of Development Scott Borlace along with Assistant Coaches Zane Littlejohn and Paul Henriksen.

“Zane’s fitted in nicely and he’s going to add a lot to the group. He’s got a teaching background as does Paul who doesn’t start until December. He’s still teaching his year 10 students down in Melbourne.

“They’ll be great additions and certainly helping me along the way. I see us as all being equals and committed to working together to really improve this group.”
