The Brisbane Lions will join St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs in having a Bye this weekend as part of the AFL’s new fixture which was designed following the introduction of a 17th team into the competition.

It will be the first of two Byes for the Lions in 2011, with the other scheduled for towards the end of the season in Round 19.

Lions defender Jed Adcock said his team was prepared for the Bye and dismissed any idea that it could potentially interrupt their season.

“Every team will have Byes to deal with at some stage throughout the season,” Adcock said.

“The good thing about it is that we play on Easter Thursday, so it’s only an 11-day break between games, not a 14-15 day break.”

The Bye will allow the players some time to ‘freshen up’ with a few days off later this week before facing St Kilda on Easter Thursday at the Gabba.

Adcock said the team was remaining positive after the narrow loss against Melbourne, but is disappointed to be winless after three rounds.

“It’s disappointing. Any loss is disappointing,” Adcock said.

“We were at a stage against Melbourne where we probably thought we should have won the game, particularly after that first quarter.”

“The confidence takes a bit of a knock, but you still take the positives out of the game.”

“We have a lot of young kids in good form at the moment. Jared Polec had 11 touches in the first quarter - it was probably the best first quarter performance I’ve ever seen from someone in their debut game.”

“Ryan Lester went to defence and played really well and Rohan Bewick didn’t come on until late in the third quarter as our sub and still managed to get 13 touches,” he said.

“We could easily be 2-1, but the reality is we’re 0-3.”

“We know we’re not far off, so hopefully in 10 days time we can come away with a win against the Saints.”
