Unlike the majority of his former Premiership teammates who have since retired along the journey, Jonathan Brown is still striving for that ultimate success.

Brown is one of just three members of the all-conquering 2001-2003 Premiership side that is still playing at the elite level - along with Simon Black and Ash McGrath.

And while the Lions skipper is looking forward to reflecting on those triumphs when the Club celebrates the 10-Year Anniversary of going Back to Back to Back , he still has unfinished business.

“You do live in the moment. One of the things Leigh (Matthews) always pushed was moving onto the next challenge - and that was a great quality of our group, we kept moving on and that’s why we were able to win three in a row,” Brown said.

“This is a good time for reflection, but for Blacky, myself and Ash - we’re still in the moment and trying to get our next success. So we probably don’t reflect on it as much as the ‘old timers’ like Charmo and those blokes.”

“You appreciate it (at the time), but you appreciate it more now - particularly after not getting a lot of Finals success over the last few years.”

Brown said that the exciting young group currently at the Club were determined to make their own history one day.

“I think we’d like to be able to challenge for September - but we’re no different to probably 14-15 other clubs,” Brown said.

“We’re striving very hard to get (a Premiership), and there is a lot of belief internally with this group. Externally people might not see it yet, but we’re progressing a long way.”

“There are a lot of really good young players the footy world hasn’t seen yet, so I think we’re not far away from starting to put up a real show.”

And as for his recent run-in with a car while riding on the Gold Coast, Brown says the incident has had little impact on his pre-season so far.

“It’s finally healed up. I’ve picked off all the scabs, much to my wife’s disgust,” he laughed.

“I’m back into training now and the body is feeling good.”
