LIONS midfield prime mover Travis Johnstone has implored his team-mates to continue their aggressive tackling and attack on the ball ahead of Saturday's crunch match against the Western Bulldgos.

Johnstone was a star in Sunday's 22-point win over Fremantle, racking up 26 possessions and kicking three goals straight to pilot the Lions to their fourth straight win.

After a slow start to the season, the 28-year-old former Melbourne Demon has come on hugely in the month of victories.

He said sitting at 7-4 after 11 rounds was a terrific start for the Lions, but the following two weeks against the Bulldogs and Adelaide Crows would tell a tale.

"They're just above us so we've got to hopefully keep that form rolling and if we can pinch those two as well it will really set us right up," Johnstone said.

"We're coming up against two teams, Bulldogs especially this week, above us and we've just got to focus on them and do what we've been doing, not change that and stick to our guns.

"The same as what we've done the last 12 weeks, we've got to come out hard and we pride ourselves on tackling and all the small things. We've been doing that well and we've got to put them under pressure and if we do that we should be right."

Johnstone said after a difficult pre-season he had settled in nicely to the Lions.

"It's pretty good at the moment and I'm pretty fortunate to be in a good team,' he said.

"I think Leigh brings a lot out of all the players and he's pretty simple with what he wants out of a player. And our senior leadership group, they demand things out of players and they do it themselves and I think it brings out good footy in all of us.

"It was a pretty tough pre-season because we didn't have the personnel, we were playing a lot of younger guys and it was frustrating but now, we've got a few injuries, but the last four weeks we've had our core group which is good and we're playing some exciting footy."

Johnstone was quite forward in his praise of Freo, saying they were the hardest team the Lions had played in its four-match winning streak which included victories over Carlton, St Kilda and North Melbourne.

He said they tackled hard, kept coming and forced the Lions to come up with answers.
