The Vodafone Brisbane Lions today finalised its 2009 playing list with a total of five selections from both the 2008 NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts.

The Club used its only selection in the Pre-Season Draft (Pick No.5) to recruit 18 year-old Murray Bushrangers forward/midfielder Tom Rockliff to the senior list.

Rockliff was a standout in this year's TAC Cup competition, kicking a competition-high 59 goals and averaging 23 disposals per match.

He helped lead the Bushrangers to their first premiership since 1998, won the club's Best & Fairest award and earned selection in the 2008 TAC Cup Team of the Year.
He also represented Victoria Country in the 2008 NAB U18 Championships where he ranked second overall for goals and first in score assists.

Lions Football Manager Graeme Allan said Rockliff was an exciting prospect whose abilities satisfy the team's needs.

"Tom is a smart and creative footballer who can kick goals as a small forward and also play in the midfield," Allan said.

The Lions also made four selections in the 2008 NAB AFL Rookie Draft which commenced immediately following the Pre-Season Draft.

East Perth ruckman Daniel Murray (Pick No.7) and Morningside midfielder/half-back Adam Spackman (Queensland Priority Pick No.66) became the newest additions to the Club's rookie list while Daniel Dzufer (Pick No.77) and Joel Tippett (Pick No.82) were re-drafted and will spend their third season as Lions rookies.

Murray represented Western Australia in the 2008 NAB U18 Championships and hails from the same junior club as fellow Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger.

"Daniel is an athletic and mobile ruckman who we believe has plenty of scope for development," Allan said. "He will be a welcome addition to our growing ruck division."

19 year-old Spackman produced some eye-catching performances with Morningside in the local AFLQ competition this year and was invited to train with the Lions earlier this month.

"Adam is a hard running midfielder who represented Queensland at state level this year and was particularly impressive during the 2008 AFLQ finals series," Allan said.

The Queensland teenager is no stranger to the Club having worked as a Retail Assistant in the Lions Shop at the Gabba for the past two seasons.

Spackman, Murray, Tippett and Dzufer join retained rookies Patrick Garner and Pearce Hanley on the Club's rookie list for 2009.
