There’s a bit of baby fever going on at the Lions at the moment.
I’m very proud to be a new dad again after my lovely wife Rita gave birth to our second son, Stirling Frankie, a few weeks ago.
And contrary to some of my teammates’ reports, I can confirm that he was not born with a beard.
In all seriousness, the little fella is just great and we are thrilled to have a new member of the family.
It’s also good to be able to introduce another boy to the Club.
We’ve got a lot of new dads here at the Lions, but until Blacky started the trend of having boys, there were pigtails everywhere.
Browny, Jed Adcock, Ash McGrath and Amon Buchanan all have little girls, and for a while there I think everyone was getting worried that the Club wasn’t shoring up enough future talent to snap up with father-son picks.
But as I say, we’ve had a recent trend towards boys in the past few months, with Blacky, Ash and myself. I think poor little Lachlan Black will be one of the first babies to be labelled a future Brownlow Medallist at the ripe age of 1 day old - talk about pressure.
My boys won’t actually be eligible for father-son picks. I played 55 games for Adelaide and 88 for the Bulldogs, and the father-son rules are that you need to play 100 games for a Club before they get a crack at your son.
I’ve played 14 games for the Lions… but to be honest, I don’t think I’ve got another 80-odd in me!
…Don’t worry though - Browny and his wife are expecting another baby later in the year.
