Today marks the first anniversary of the floods that devastated - and brought together - the Queensland community last year.

Inland flooding in areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and the Lockyer Valley brought the nation to a standstill as Australia suffered one of its worst natural disasters in history, claiming the lives of more than 35 people.

Strangers volunteered in droves to house stranded homeowners, to assist at help centres and to contribute to the mammoth task of cleaning up the mess that was left behind.

The Brisbane Lions were overwhelmed, as so many others were, at the incredible spirit of the people of Queensland, and Australia, before, during and after the floods.

As we commemorate this day across the nation, the Brisbane Lions would like to extend its thoughts to those affected by the floods.
