RESTRICTED free agent Jed Adcock says it's just a matter of time before he inks a new deal with the Brisbane Lions.

The 26-year-old is one of five Lions out of contract and on the free agency list, but the vice-captain is confident of finalising details soon.

Simon Black and Jonathan Brown are unrestricted free agents, but both have triggers in their contracts to activate a further season, while the club has also started talks with Josh Drummond and Ash McGrath.

"We shouldn't be too far away hopefully," Adcock said prior to Lions training on Friday afternoon.

"Things are moving along nicely. Ideally I'd like to stay and we're looking close."

From Maryborough in Victoria, Adcock scoffed at those suggestions he could move to a Victorian-based club.

"Not that I know of. Not many needing a nine-year veteran I guess you could say," he laughed.

Adcock, with 134 games to his name, is already in the leadership group and is considered a possible successor to Jonathan Brown as skipper once the champion centre half-forward retires.

The robust half-back said the Lions would need to hit Gold Coast early and hit them hard to keep the young Suns quiet in Saturday's QClash at Metricon Stadium.

He said Gold Coast's win against Richmond last week would ensure their young opponent was confident.

"I think with any younger team momentum plays a big part in it," he said.

"If you give the younger guys or more inexperienced teams momentum or a chance to put a few quick goals on the board, they get their tails up and it's hard to stop after that.

"It's really big for Queensland footy and the rivalry that's beginning.

"We need to take the crowd out of it early and put the stamp on in the first quarter, hit them early so they can't get out of the blocks."

Adcock admitted to taking an extra day or two to get over last Saturday's 13-point loss against St Kilda.

He said the Lions had played better footy for much of the match but were unable to capitalise going forward.

"We knew this game coming up, and especially after Gold Coast had a good win against Richmond, we knew we had to switch on pretty quick and it's pretty easy when you're playing the Gold Coast."
