I was expecting the worst when I logged in to check my AFL Dream Team this morning.

Without following scores that closely over the weekend, I knew that my skipper Jack Redden probably had his quietest game for the year (he scored a season-low 66 points), and West Coast defender Beau Waters’ late withdrawal left me one player short in my backline.

But, to my surprise, The Polka Specials still managed to score 2,003 points and move up eight spots in the Lions’ Dream Team League!

Matthew Pavlich (144 points), Matthew Priddis (141 points), Dayne Zorko (140 points) and Matthew Boyd (133 points) all came through for me when I needed it most.

Looks like I’ll have to take the yellow jersey off Reddo, whose been my Captain for the past six weeks, and hand it over to one of the boys I mentioned above.

Maybe my constant pleas for Jack to perform well for my Dream Team have become too much of a strain on him. So it might be time to alleviate that unnecessary stress from his match day.

Trouble is, I only have five trades left and there are still eight weeks to go. Looks like I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed that my players stay fit and healthy.

In the overall rankings, it’s good to see a new challenger appear for LeueyLongerCombo!

‘Ruck N Roll’ (coached by Moana) has bulleted into second and are only 135 points of the main prize. It’s good to see things starting to heat up at the business end of the season.

POLKS’ TIP FOR THE WEEK

Patrick Karnezis has been bringing his own ball to Reserves games over the past month and racking up huge numbers.

I think a couple of weeks ago he had 40+ disposals and 15 or so marks. I know these don’t count towards AFL Dream Teams, but if they did, he would no doubt be averaging around 150 points.

Patty earned his senior recall on the weekend and took 11 marks and kicked two goals against the Swans to be our fifth top scorer for the week with 90 points.

If he keeps up this sort of form, his price tag of $241,000 will be very appealing for anyone looking to fill a vacant position in their forward line.
