Lions 'distraught' after loss
Daniel Rich says the Lions are distraught after their losing to Carlton by 91 points on Thursday night
THE BRISBANE Lions were still licking their wounds at Friday morning's recovery session, stunned at the mauling they copped from Carlton on Thursday night.
There was a sombre air around the team as they swam and walked laps at the Colmslie pool on Brisbane's southside, still reeling from the 91-point loss inflicted by one of the premiership favourites.
Midfielder Daniel Rich said the players were "distraught" after the result and would analyse the game over the weekend before preparing for a trip west to take on Fremantle in round three.
The good news for the Lions was they came through unscathed on the injury front and will welcome skipper Jonathan Brown back from his fractured cheekbone for the Freo clash.
"It's all about moving on and having a think about it over the weekend," Rich said.
"We get two or three days to review the game in our own heads and come Monday we'll be focussed on getting the job done this weekend."
The Lions have a video review session on Friday afternoon before the players have two days off.
Vice-captain Jed Adcock said the confidence had taken a hit but it was important to move on.
"Come Monday you've got to be fully focussed on next week," Adcock said.
"If you hang on to this game too long you'll take it into the next game and the same will happen.
"We've seen the standard we need to get to, and unfortunately we're probably a fair way off it at the moment but we'll work towards that."
Rich and Adcock had close-up views of midfield maestros Marc Murphy and Chris Judd, who tallied 63 disposals and five goals between them in classy displays.
Rich - who was the Lions' best with 27 disposals - said the Lions got trapped in the Blues' run-and-gun game.
"It's only early in the year," he said.
"The positive is we're 1-1 after two games, it's better than being 0-2. The good thing is we get a couple of days off now, the boys can relax and recover, review the game and get stuck into next weekend."
