COACH Michael Voss has implored his Brisbane Lions to use Sunday's heart-stopping win over West Coast as a catalyst to move forward in 2012 rather than be a blip on the radar.

The two-point win was the Lions' first over a top-eight team in exactly two seasons since they defeated Collingwood in round 10, 2010.

Since then the Lions had won just nine of 43 matches in all before Sunday's comeback win.

With a 4-6 record entering the bye, Voss said his team had to use the victory as a springboard to move forward.

"It can accelerate it (development) or we can hang our hat on it," he said.

"We don't want … this to be the game we hang our hat on and that's it. We want it to be the key moment that helped us develop our list.

"We've got to use it as a catalyst. It's our job now to be professionals and park it, get a pat on the back and say 'Well done guys' but then move on."

The Lions previous wins this season had come against lowly Melbourne, Gold Coast and GWS and they had been thumped by highly-fancied Essendon, Geelong, Collingwood and Carlton.

After coming back from 21 points down in the final quarter to snatch the win, Voss said there was no hiding his elation.

"You can't hose it down, it's impossible; it's a pretty important win for our club, it's an important win for our team," he said.

"For our members, our fans, our sponsors … they look at our team and see the emerging talent that's coming through. Just to be able to see that on display. The things I've been seeing, others can see.

"To play against a top of the table side and get a win like that, I'm pretty proud of the persistence and belief in what we're trying to do."

Voss heaped praise on his team's character for fighting back in the last quarter against what he described as "a bloody good side" he rated highly.

The Lions coach saved special mention for ruckman Ben Hudson and versatile Daniel Merrett who spent time forward, back and as a back-up in the ruck.

Despite losing the hit-outs 75-29, the Lions won the clearances 45-44 and Voss said the two big men played a huge role.

"Hudson and Merrett's role today was enormous. They had such a great game. We needed them to and they delivered. If there's two players from me that come out with special mention, it's those two."
