Stopping Blues' midfield a priority
Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss is reviewing plenty of Carlton footage in the lead-up to Saturday night's elimination final
The Blues have won their last two games at the Gabba by six points but are coming off a 72-point thrashing by Adelaide.
Voss doesn’t read much into lopsided scoreline last weekend.
"Sometimes a team can have a good record against an opposition and they’ve (Adelaide) had a good record," Voss said.
Voss said he would be looking at tapes of more than just the round 22 game in his pre-match preparation.
"You look at past games that they’ve won, past games that they’ve lost," Voss said.
"You have to learn from both because you have to know what they do when they’re up and going and you also have to know what they’re doing when they’re suffering a little."
One lesson Voss will be stressing to his players is to not be overawed by the acclaimed Carlton midfield, particularly if the Lions’ midfield leader Simon Black (hamstring) is unable to play.
Voss said the Lions were now better equipped to cope with pressure.
"That’s something I think that we’re still learning about ourselves and we get another chance to be able to learn a bit more about ourselves on Saturday night," Voss said.
"Pressure is good because you can learn from those things, stress is when you make your mistakes."
Rather than be riddled with stress, Voss says the players should enjoy the occasion of their first finals appearance in five years.
"This is the time when you’re supposed to really enjoy yourself, when you get to the finals," Voss said.
"The players have centre stage and they should go out there and really enjoy themselves and the experience they’ve got and the crowd that they’ll get here."
