The Lions Reserves responded from a 20 goal drubbing at the hands of Labrador before the Bye with an impressive 92-point win against Broadbeach in their Round 12 AFLQ Velocity Sports Cup clash on Saturday afternoon at the Gabba.

The more experienced Lions outfit booted a wasteful 7.7 in the opening quarter to lead by 19 points at the first change before piling on 13 goals to two in the final three quarters.

Key position prospect Matthew Tyler kicked seven goals for the home side on his return match from an achilles injury. Tyler proved an imposing figure up forward after spending time both in the ruck and in defence prior to his injury.

Without brilliant co-captain Wade Dickson and the lion-hearted Ben Walters, the young Broadbeach defence could do little to contain the Lions, who had ruckman Joel Tippett float forward to offer a target and contribute two goals.

Midfielders Tom Rockliff (28 disposals) and Jack Redden (26 disposals and 14 tackles) continued their outstanding form of recent weeks for the Lions while Travis Johnstone (26 disposals) was busy throughout.

Bradd Dalziell - playing his second game back after a knee injury - was in the thick of the action for the entire match and finished with a game-high 40 touches.

Tom Collier was outstanding with his run and precise use of the ball, while veteran Tim Notting also showed plenty of dash.

The win catapulted the Lions Reserves back into the top five with a crucial clash against the fourth-placed Northern Territory in Darwin awaiting them this Friday night.
