THE AFL has announced the locations for the 2010 Telstra AFL Community Camps.
Now a tradition in the weeks leading into the NAB Cup, clubs will visit communities throughout Australia to conduct training sessions, visit schools, nursing homes and hospitals and conduct NAB AFL Auskick clinics.
AFL general manager development David Matthews said the camps provide an opportunity for more than 700 AFL players to take the game to regional communities.
"During last year's Telstra AFL Community Camps AFL players visited 120 schools and 3000 children attended superclinics," Matthews said.
"These camps provide an ideal opportunity to launch the forthcoming season and assist us to build on our 732,803 participants.
"The AFL clubs are able to have a positive impact on communities and this will particularly be the case for those townships affected by the devastating bushfires that will host Carlton in the first week of February."
Telstra executive director of brands and marketing communications group Amanda Johnston-Pell was thrilled to announce her company's continuing support of the camps.
"Telstra is pleased to be able to provide these opportunities for young, up and coming players to get first-hand advice and benefit from the experience and skills of their sporting heroes," Johnston-Pell said.
"We see the tremendous boost these camps give to regional communities, and the positive motivating effect they have on young people's interest in their sport."
