Lions membership tally rises
The Lions are pleased to announce a 9% increase in Club membership in 2009.
The Club finished with 24,873 members (with game entry rights) in 2009 which was a marked improvement from last year’s figure of 22,737. It is the Lions’ highest membership total since 2006 and the fourth highest in the history of the Club.
The Club’s total number of members - which also includes Lions members without game entry rights - is currently sitting at 26,324.
The Club wishes to take this opportunity to thank every member for their support in helping us achieve this total.
We hope that our membership figures continue to rise in the coming seasons for what promises to be an exciting future for the Club.
Across all 16 clubs, the AFL had signed a new record tally of 586,748 members as at the June 30 deadline - a 2.2% rise on last year’s total of 574,091 members.
AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou publicly thanked the record numbers of football supporters across the country who had made the financial commitment to be a member of their club.
“On behalf of the AFL, I wish to thank every single person across Australia who supports our game and who makes the commitment to join an AFL club,” Mr Demetriou said.
“Our game’s health is entirely dependent on the support of the community, both for the AFL game and for community and regional football across the country, and the AFL is humbled by the passion and the dedication of football fans across the land.”
