Claye Beams and his brother Dayne have always been quite close.

So close in fact, that they both announced new contract extensions with their respective clubs within a week of each other.

Brisbane Lions fans were thrilled to hear on Tuesday that Claye - a 2012 AFL Rising Star nominee - had committed to the Club for a further two seasons, while big brother Dayne’s re-signing with Collingwood last Thursday proved huge news for one of this year’s Premiership fancies.

Only 18 months separates the Queensland born-and-bred siblings, however Claye is probably still a little further behind his brother in terms of his AFL development considering he spent the majority of his junior years concentrating on a promising cricket career.

Claye has now been part of the AFL system for three seasons, and is looking forward to playing against Dayne at some stage when the Lions and Magpies meet in the future.

“I’ve actually been injured every chance I have had of lining up against him,” Beams told lions.com.au exclusively during a live chat on Wednesday.

“Let’s hope next year we can play against each other.”

“There would be a bit of banter - he always used to run away from me.”

Beams said that the decision to stay at home and re-sign with the Lions was an easy one.

“I love all the mates I have made here over my first three years,” he said.

“I’m also one of the lucky ones where my family only lives an hour down the road. I’d see them probably once a week!”

Beams joined Vice-Captain Jed Adcock and Josh Green as the latest players to sign new contracts with the Club, and hinted that fans should expect some more key signings soon.
