The LIONS have beaten the Demons just once at the MCG since 2000 (from four attempts), but should be full of confidence come Sunday having won their past five encounters against Melbourne.

The Lions have pushed Fremantle and the Sydney Swans in their past two outings, but midfield coach Simon Black says his side can’t afford to take the home team lightly.

“Melbourne are a pretty young side too, like us. We’re under no illusions, we’ve got to go down and play really good football, we’ve been able to do it for the best part of three quarters for the last few weeks.”

"Our goal this week is to try to finish it off"

Stefan Martin (returning from suspension) and Matthew Leuenberger will combine again to take on the Dees, Max Gawn. Gawn has averaged 39.8 hit-outs and 15 disposals in his five games this season.

“Gawn has had a really strong season and Nathan Jones is a quality midfielder who is very consistent. They’re a couple we’ll have to keep an eye on and try to nullify their influence.

“It’s fantastic to have Stefan play against his old side.

“He’ll obviously play in the ruck and possibly forward at times as well. He’s a quality player and there’s no doubt when we get the ball in offence he’s such an asset for us. He takes a lot of marks around the ground, he’s essentially an onballer.”
