No less than seven Brisbane Lions players have been selected in the initial 40-strong squads to compete in the upcoming Hall of Fame Tribute Match to be played at the MCG on Saturday 10 May 2008.

All four Lions co-captains Jonathan Brown (Victoria), Nigel Lappin (Victoria), Luke Power (Victoria) and Simon Black (Dream Team) were selected in the initial squads together with in-form full-forward Daniel Bradshaw and ruck pair Jamie Charman (Dream Team) and Matthew Leuenberger (Dream Team). Brown has been granted the additional honours of captaining his state for the first time and being on the team’s selection panel.

Second year ruckman Leuenberger is both the youngest and most inexperienced player selected in either squad. The 19 year-old West Australian has played only 13 senior matches since being drafted by the Lions with Pick No.4 in the 2006 AFL National Draft.

Lappin is the only player from the Lions to have already participated in an AFL State of Origin match, representing Victoria on three occasions before the series was discontinued.

The Victorian squad is headed by eight representatives from the Geelong Cats while the Dream Team includes seven players from the Adelaide Crows and five from Geelong.

Coach Mark Thompson, assistant coach Kevin Sheedy and captain Jonathan Brown form the Victorian Team's selection panel, with players from 13 clubs chosen to make up the squad.

The Victorian team will gather in Melbourne for training at the MCG on Thursday 8 May and Friday 9 May before the final team of 25 (18 plus 7 on the interchange bench) is named the day before the game.

Coach Mark Williams, assistant coach Neale Daniher and captain Andrew McLeod form the Dream Team's selection panel, with players from 13 clubs chosen to make up the squad.

The Dream Team will gather in Melbourne for training at the MCG on Wednesday 7 May and Friday 9 May before the final team of 25 (18 plus 7 on the interchange bench) is named the day before the game.

The state-by-state breakdown of the Dream Team saw 15 South Australians, 12 Western Australians, four New South Welshmen, four from the Northern Territory, two Queenslanders, one Tasmanian, one from the ACT and one Irishman selected.

A cut-down squad of 30 players for each team will be announced on the evening of Sunday 4 May 2008 following the final match in Round 7. Please note players from outside the initial squads of 40 can be named in the final squads to take into account form and injuries.
