Jonathan Brown knows the tricks of the trade on the field and now he is helping implement them off it.

The Lions co-captain is applying his handy work to Good Sports Home Services – a handyman, car wash and maintenance service with a difference.

The brainchild of Brown’s cousin and state league footballer Shaun ‘Mugsy’ Mugavin, Good Sports Home Services stemmed from Mugavin’s own Mugsy’s Mowing business which operated with great success around Queensland from 2006.

After almost two years of operation, Mugavin found he wanted to offer a greater range of services to his clients and provide an opportunity for fellow athletes to make money in a flexible and lucrative way.

So he enlisted the services of his cousin Brown and Morningside Panthers team-mate Jacob Gough to create a unique business concept – Australia’s first 3-in-1 home services business.

The basis behind the name ‘Good Sports’ is that the owners are passionate about giving something back to the local sports community to help create future sporting champions like the ones supporting the business.

Therefore, a percentage of each franchisees turnover goes directly to a local sporting club of their choice. They really are ‘Good Sports’!

The business presents an affordable alternative for people requiring home maintenance services while providing opportunities for teams or individuals to start their own lucrative business outside of their sporting careers.

Although a Good Sports franchise is available to anyone wanting to join the team, it is well suited to athletes who want to work their own hours while still playing and training for the sport they love. New franchisees make over $40/hr, working when it fits in their schedule, with a guaranteed income of $1000/wk from day one. No experience is necessary as full training is provided. Another bonus of being part of the team is the regular get togethers, where Browny has been known to drop in quite regularly.

“We’d all love to play footy until we’re 50 years old I suppose, but that just doesn’t happen,” Brown said. “So a lot of guys these days are trying to get themselves set up in something to do after their footy career”.

“The best part is that a percentage of what they do goes back to supporting grass roots footy.”

"It makes sense to me to support the companies that support my industry. I know when I use Good Sports Home Services a portion of what I pay goes towards supporting the local sports teams. It’s a great concept," he said.

While Brown is currently the most notable celebrity ambassador for the concept, the company plans to have at least one high profile representative for each sport they associate with. Dual-hockey-Olympian Nikki Hudson is on the list as well as highly decorated Ironman Hayden Smith, both of whom were eager to support and join the Good Sports team.

The business is already pleasing thousands of clients and it’s no wonder considering Good Sports guarantees its results and will beat any quoted price by 10%.

With 2008 being the inaugural year, Good Sports has a few incentives on offer including:

• $500 off the usual franchise price for all Lions members
• PLUS all new franchisees joining the team in 2008 go into a draw to have their initial investment paid back at the end of the year!
