I’m not using this as an excuse, but the team flew to Perth last Thursday afternoon and I didn’t give the poor old ‘Polka Specials’ a second thought while I was over there.
Not that it probably would have mattered anyway.
The only real trade I considered was to potentially bring in Toby Greene from the GWS Giants - but even that wouldn’t have made a huge difference to my ordinary score of 1,727.
I also left Geelong’s Billie Smedts and West Coast midfielder Matt Priddis on my field - only to realise later that neither played in Round 3 due to injury. Fortunately I still had a couple of subs in their positions so didn’t cop any zeros.
On a positive note, I still have 24 trades left!
The only other positive I can take out of my Dream Team from the weekend was that Jared Polec scored 84 points after coming on as the sub early in the second quarter.
I got on Jared’s bandwagon at the start of the season because he has an ability to find plenty of the footy and can kick a goal or two - as shown with that booming 60m set shot on Saturday. In fact, he booted two of the team’s five goals - and probably could have almost finished with four.
My ‘Polka Specials’ might have slipped to 336th overall in the Lions’ League, but I’m not starting to panic just yet. It’s a long season and I have faith in my boys to come home strong in the second half of the season.
Although it’s looking more and more difficult to reel in the ‘Bruisers’ who are leading the way and are already more than 1,000 points ahead of me after only three games.
POLKS’ TIP FOR THE WEEK
Josh Drummond played his first match for the season last weekend against the Dockers and was our highest scoring Dream Team player with 95 points.
Better yet he’s only $289,000, so I suggest you pick him up either this week or next before his price skyrockets.
