DON'T talk to the Brisbane Lions about finals - they're just looking at Saturday's trip to the SCG to take on competition "benchmarks" the Sydney Swans.

Just a day after thumping Melbourne by 61 points and moving to within a win of the top eight, hard-working midfielder Jack Redden said the Lions were looking no further ahead than this weekend.

Following back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Lions are now 6-7, sitting alongside St Kilda, Carlton, Richmond and Fremantle, and right in the finals mix.

But just like coach Michael Voss in his post-match press conference, Redden was talking down the Lions' chances of making seeing action in September.

"I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves," Redden said at the Lions' Monday morning recovery session.

"We've had six wins now. I think the main focus is to back it up and get momentum into the back end of the year.

"If we can play finals, that's what you set out to do at the start of the year, it'd be great, but we'll focus on this week.

"It's a massive step up. Sydney are a quality side. They're a very one-on-one side, a very disciplined side, a great team. They're the benchmark of the competition I'd say, and especially in Sydney, on their home deck, [a win] would be massive."

Redden was one of the primary architects of Sunday's win, racking up 32 disposals, seven marks, six clearances and a goal.

Although veterans Simon Black (26 disposals) and Jonathan Brown (four goals) were prominent in the victory, Redden said he and the rest of the Lions' cubs were confident taking more responsibility now.

He said the nail-biting round 10 win over West Coast had helped instil the belief, but they needed another scalp to ram home the new-found momentum.

"If we could knock off [another] top-four side that would be a great win for us," he said.

"I think the young guys are stepping up as well and it shows good depth throughout the club. The twos are playing well at the moment and it's putting pressure on the other boys. It's good times at the club."

"It's a young side and we're building as a group and relationship and confidence are all coming together. Hopefully we can build the momentum and keep getting some more wins."
