With just two games left in 2012, Lions Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton says that fans have most likely seen the last of defender Matt Maguire for this season.

Maguire injured his ankle against West Coast in Round 18, and managed just a quarter against Adelaide on the weekend before being substituted off.

“Given the amount of training he’s had over the last three or four weeks, he (Maguire) is probably unlikely to play over the next couple of weeks,” Burton said on this week’s Bupa Recovery Report.

“So we’ll probably look to do some surgery in another area where he needs a bit of a tidy-up, but we’ll make those decisions in the coming days.”

Burton also revealed that fans had nothing to worry about with skipper Jonathan Brown.

Brown took a mark in the final quarter which saw him collide with the behind post, and carry a slight hobble into his run-up - but Burton joked that Brown was just playing for time.

“The big fella’s fine - I think he was probably trying to milk a bit more time to get his breath back! He’s fine and won’t take any (injury) into the game this week.”

Burton said that the team was energised following the come-from-behind win and were fit and focused on this weekend’s challenge.

“The boys pulled up really well - obviously when you get a win, you always physically and mentally pull up a lot better,” Burton said.

“So we’re looking forward to going down to Adelaide this week.”
