Brisbane Lions Chairman Angus Johnson says receiving the Flag of the 7th Brigade of the Australian Army is an "incredible honour" for the Club.

Mr Johnson was presented with the Flag by Brigadier Greg Bilton prior to Saturday night's clash against Geelong at the Gabba.

The match was part of the AFL's ANZAC Round.

Mr Johnson, who returned the gesture by presenting Brigadier Bilton with a framed Lions jumper, said the Flag would be displayed within the Club's football department and would act as inspiration to the entire Club.

“The 7th Brigade is one of the most decorated Brigades in the Australian Army," Mr Johnson said.

“When I presented the Flag to our players and staff after the match, I spoke of the 7th Brigade being a great example of having a culture of protecting and supporting your mate, selfless behaviour and courage - which are all values we adhere to and continually strive for as a Club.”

"To be presented with the Flag that represents the Brigade and their strong values is an incredible honour for the Brisbane Lions.”

“The Flag will be displayed within our football department as a constant source of inspiration for all of our players and staff.”

Described as the “Quintessential Australian Brigade”, the Brisbane-based 7th Brigade was first raised in 1915 and saw action at Gallipoli and on the Western Front during World War 1.

They currently have troops serving over in Iraq, Afghanistan, East Timor and the Solomon Islands.
