The Brisbane Lions today finalised their entire playing list for 2010 with six selections at the AFL Rookie Draft.

The Lions drafted Gippsland Power midfielder Mitchell Golby (Pick No.16), Eastern Ranges midfielder/forward Josh Dyson (Pick No.32), Irish International Rookie Niall McKeever (Pick No.67), and three Queenslanders in Mt Gravatt teenager Sean Yoshiura (Pick No.74), Labrador product Claye Beams (Pick No.76) and big-bodied Southport ruckman Broc McCauley (Pick No.78).

Yoshiura, Beams and McCauley were taken with the Club's Queensland Priority Selections while McKeever had already signed with the Club as an International Rookie back in June this year.

Lions National Recruiting Manager Graeme Hadley was pleased with the Club's outcome at the AFL Rookie Draft.

"We were keen to top-up our midfielders and believe the handful that we picked up will add great depth to our midfield group," Hadley said.

"We have drafted a combination of inside midfielders and outside midfielders with a blend of pace and toughness."

Mitchell Golby is a creative midfielder/defender who impressed with the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup before injuring his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in the lead-up to the U18 Championships.

"Mitch hurt his knee in a trial game for Vic Country after showing some terrific early season form," Hadley said.

"He's a versatile left-footer who can play as an inside midfielder, outside midfielder and across half-back or half-forward."

"He has a strong and penetrating kick, shows plenty of courage and is an excellent reader of the play."

The Club's second rookie selection Josh Dyson is a well-balanced midfielder/forward who averaged 20 disposals for the Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup U18 competition in 2009.

"Josh is a lightning quick outside midfielder or wingman who can also play the role of a quick defensive-type forward," Hadley said.

"He's a very good reader of the play, has great pace and is a beautiful left-foot kick."

Niall McKeever - who hails from Portglenone in Ireland - was a driving force behind County Antrim's unlikely charge at the Ulster Championship in 2009.

He was signed for two years as an International Rookie mid-year and joined his new team-mates for pre-season training in November.

"Niall has all the physical attributes to be a success in the AFL," Lions Football Manager Graeme Allan said.

"He is tall, quick and athletic and we believe he could develop into a quality key defender."

Sean Yoshiura becomes the first ever Japanese-born player to be drafted to an AFL list. He moved with his family to Australia at the age of seven and quickly became involved in Australian Rules football at the junior level.

He was a member of Mt Gravatt's 2009 QAFL Grand Final side and is an elite runner having represented Australia in the 2008 World Schoolboys Championships in the Czech Republic.

"Sean is a lean and developing midfielder who can also play at either half-back or half-forward," Hadley said.

"He played a game with the Brisbane Lions Reserves earlier this year and performed very well."

"He's also an outstanding endurance athlete with a very good athletics pedigree."

The Lions also selected Queenslander Claye Beams who impressed Lions recruiters after featuring in six senior matches for Labrador during the 2009 QAFL season.

Beams was a first-grade cricketer for much of his junior career before switching back to Australian Rules football after watching his brother Dayne play for Collingwood.

"Claye is a very talented all-round sportsperson," Hadley said.

"He played predominantly across half-back in his senior footy this year. His key attributes are his decision-making ability and clean kicking skills."

22 year-old Gold Coast ruckman Broc McCauley is another new Lion with junior experience across a range of sports including soccer, basketball and cricket. He returned to competitive AFL in 2006 and has since been a solid contributor for local club Southport in the QAFL.

In 2009, he represented Queensland, was named in the QAFL Team of the Year, finished equal 7th in the QAFL Grogan Medal and won Southport's Most Improved Player Award.

"Broc is a big, strong and athletic ruckman who also has good speed and endurance for a big guy," Hadley said.

"He is a very powerful player who was one of the dominant ruckmen in the QAFL this year."
