Lions aided by rooftop training
The Brisbane Lions' training program has been saved by St Laurence College’s rooftop artificial turf field.
The Lions were recently forced to find an alternate training venue when the relentless downpour in Brisbane flooded the Club’s regular summer training facility at Coorparoo, and St Laurence's facility fit the bill perfectly.
Speaking exclusively with LIONS TV, Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton said his players had already benefited from utilising the rooftop venue.
“If we weren’t able to use this facility, we would have lost two training sessions this week,” Burton told LIONS TV.
“It’s been a good change-up for us. We’re always looking for some variety in our training and to have a venue like this is sensational.”
“You can’t find too many facilities in Australia where you can train on the top of an eight-storey car park. It generates a bit of a buzz among the group.”
Burton also revealed that the team’s training program had already transitioned into more game-specific drills in readiness for the start of the 2012 season.
“Post-Christmas it’s all about playing games,” Burton said.
“We’ve just come off a good two-and-a-half week block, had a de-load week last week, and now we’re cranking it up to some more game-specific training.”
