No special plans for Aker
Michael Voss says it would be dangerous to focus too much on ex-Lion Jason Akermanis in Friday's second semi-final
The three-time Lions premiership player broke the hearts of the home fans at the Gabba when he slotted a crucial goal from the boundary late in the final quarter in round 20.
The goal stopped a familiar Lions surge in its tracks, with the Bulldogs holding on to win by 18 points.
Lions coach Michael Voss says the Bulldogs have far too many potent goalscorers like Shaun Higgins, Lindsay Gilbee, Brad Johnson and Adam Cooney to focus on one player.
“Their strength has been that they get goals from a lot of other areas,” Voss said of the Bulldogs.
“They’ve got some 15 players who’ve kicked 10-plus goals for the year, so that’s an enormous amount of diversity and scoring power from a lot of different areas.
“They change the look of themselves quite often, and being able to change it up with that sort of flexibility is their strength.”
Voss believes the Bulldogs' round 20 victory re-launched their stuttering season, but says his players have a genuine belief they can turn around that result this Friday.
“It’s going to be a good challenge for us, but I think we’re up for it,” Voss said.
“We’ve had a good win, morale is up, guys should be playing with a lot of confidence now and we go in with good shape.”
Voss said the Lions need to adapt their desperate style of play in final quarters into the rest of their game, describing their 37-point final quarter turnaround against Carlton as “extraordinary.”
“Maybe that (playing risky, desperate football) frees them up to be able to play their style,” Voss said.
“I thought that the guys really held their nerve and held their head.
“They’re things that we’ve been working on through the course of the whole year, and we were able to do (them) when the pressure was on.”
