The ruck stops here
Injured Lion Matthew Leuenberger has sung the praises of his fellow ruckmen and believes the Club’s ruck division is in good hands heading into the future.
In a Live Chat with fans on lions.com.au that included topics such as Leuenberger’s love-life, off-season travel plans, bromances and cooking, the big ruckman said that Ben Hudson in particular had been a saviour for the Club in 2012.
“[Hudson has] been great - [He’s a ] likeable character and a great competitor, it’s just a shame I haven’t had the chance to partner up with him,” Leuenberger said.
He also urged fans to be patient with first-year ruckman Billy Longer, who has played five senior AFL games this year.
“It’s important to remember that he is 18 and it’s unrealistic to think he will be playing a lot of senior footy,” Leuenberger said.
“However, he is improving week by week in the Ressies, and he’s adjusted to life in Brisbane really well.”
Meanwhile, looking ahead to this weekend’s clash against Richmond, ruck coach Jamie Charman told Lions TV that Tigers big man Ivan Maric would be the one to watch.
“Ivan Maric has been in All-Australian form for Richmond this year - he’s been fantastic so he’s certainly one that we’re going to need to shut down,” Charman said.
“Huddo (Hudson) will play his game obviously in and under, and I think Huddo matches up quite well - probably more so that the Cox/Naitanui match-up last week.”
“So we’re going in pretty prepared this week.”
