The Lions have secured West Australian midfielder Daniel Rich with their first selection (pick No.7 overall) in the 2008 NAB AFL National Draft.
The 2008 NAB AFL Draft kicked off this morning with Melbourne selecting Jack Watts from the Sandringham Dragons with the number one selection overall.
West Coast and Fremantle then proceeded to select local West Australian teenagers Nick Naitanui and Stephen Hill with picks two and three respectively.
Port Adelaide took Hamish Hartlett with pick four while Essendon opted for defender Michael Hurley with the following selection.
Once Carlton had read out Chris Yarran’s name at pick six, the Lions were quick to pounce on Rich.
Rich is a high possession winning in-and-under midfielder who possesses quality skills and is a penetrating left foot kick.
The Lions selected medium midfielder Jack Redden from Glenelg in South Australia with their second round selection (pick No.25 overall).
The Lions selected speedy West Australian midfielder Todd Banfield with their third round selection (pick No.41 overall).
The Lions went for tall marking forward Aaron Cornelius from Tasmania with their fourth selection (No.57 overall).
Tasmanian ruckman Bart McCulloch was drafted to the Lions with their fifth round selection (No.69 overall).
The Lions took 17 year-old attacking midfielder Kieran King with selection No.81 before passing on pick No.82.
