BRISBANE Lions veteran Simon Black has admitted his team’s season is in danger of falling apart.

The Lions were thrashed by the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, a result that means they have lost seven of their past eight matches.

Asked after the game if their 2010 campaign was disintegrating, Black replied: “Quite clearly. Obviously every game from here is pretty massive for us.

“We’ve made a mess of the last six weeks, so it is slipping away.”

But while the Lions now boast a 5-7 win-loss record, Black and his teammates are not giving up on their ambition to make the finals.

“There’s 10 games to go so we can still do it,” the 31-year-old said. “But we’ve just got to focus on trying to win one game. That’s where we’re at.

“We’re playing really poorly at the moment.”

The Lions started the season with four consecutive wins, yet that run of success now seems like a distant memory for the players.

“Feels like a long, long time ago,” Black stated. “We’re obviously not playing like that anymore. We’ve let it slip.

“Honestly, you just don’t know what you’re going to get with us. We’re good for a patch and then we’re real ordinary.

“It’s been an issue for a couple of years. I can’t remember the last time we played four decent quarters of footy - a long, long time ago.

“It’s an issue for our club and our team. We’re a long way off the mark at the moment.”

The Lions have been hit hard by injuries this season, with inspirational skipper Jonathan Brown the latest star to be sidelined.

But Black believes other factors have also contributed to the team’s slump.

“Personnel problems are partly to blame,” he said. “We’ve probably had four or five of our better players missing.

“It’s part that, but it’s part attitude as well.”
